Black Thursday
Turkeys are intelligent, curious and mischievous beings who will seek out companionship of humans and other turkeys. Once their trust is gained, turkeys can be as friendly and loving as a cat or dog. Our rescued turkeys free-roam the farm and love interacting with staff, volunteers and visitors daily.
In the month spanning Thanksgiving and Christmas, 65 million turkeys will be slaughtered in the US alone.
If you’ve never gotten a glimpse of what the four to five months of a commercial turkey’s life is like, you owe it to yourself and to them to watch the videos below. It’s undeniable — there’s misery at every stage. They are made of flesh and blood, just like you and me, and they suffer just as we would. They deserve our compassion, just as all beings do.
Instead of a dead bird who lived a miserable life on the table this year, see our pages of suggested recipes for Thanksgiving or try Tofurky Deli Slices as a healthy and delicious alternative to turkey. You can sponsor a turkey here at Woodstock Sanctuary as a great way to help us care for farmed animals in need and as a great gift to yourself or a loved one who you might want to inspire.
