Humane Lobby Day Author: Doug Abel | Monday, April 08, 2013 | No comments Hunters filled the halls on Lobby Day – now it’s our turn! An excellent day to flex your democratic muscles to help animals. It’s our job to make sure animals have a voice in government policy. This is an exciting opportunity to meet directly with your elected officials and their staff about legislation that will significantly impact animals. There will be a briefing with tips for lobbying, and an overview of pending animal legislation which will prepare you to meet your elected officials and advocate for animals. One VERY IMPORTANT bill that is headed to congress is Bill A00424 which would ban the most egregious forms of confinement of farm animals: Battery cages used for egg-laying hens, gestation crates used for pregnant pigs and veal crates used to pen baby calves. http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A00424 Please speak to your legislators about this issue and let’s add New York to the states already banning these cruel confinement systems that deprive animals of their natural instincts and basically everything that makes life worth living to them. Legislators are most motivated when their constituents make time to meet with them face to face. By attending the 2013 New York State Humane Lobby Day, you can be instrumental in helping to protect animals from puppy mills, shark finning, factory farming and more. WHEN: Wednesday, April 17, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM WHERE: Empire State Plaza Convention Center: Meeting Rooms 1 & 2 Albany, NY 12223 Go here for more details and to RSVP.
