Give the animals #HayEveryDay this winter

Thursday, December 01, 2016

I woke up today to frost on the ground and a brisk chill in the air. It’s starting to feel like winter up at the Sanctuary – we even got a few inches of snow. Our caregivers are wearing winter coats and heavy boots to go out and care for the animals every morning. But most notably, the cows are going through hay very quickly. And we really need your help to stock up.

We have the heat lamps blazing and hand-knit sweaters for the little ones but with more rescued animal than ever before, it’s important that our large animals like cows and goats have enough hay to keep their bellies full. They eat more during winter months and can’t graze on grass like they do in the summer.

So the animals need you. We’re asking our closest friends to be “hayraisers” – that is fundraisers that give the animals hay every day this winter. We go through 30 bales of hay each day. That’s 2,700 bales to get through the winter. So if 45 of our supporters donate or raise two days of hay, animals like goofy Willy and sweet Kayli can stay warm and full in the long, cold winter ahead.

And helping is easier than ever. Just choose how many days you’d like to feed the animals for and then share with your family and friends.

As a thank you, we’ll send you pictures of animals eating on the day that you sponsored their hay! This means so much to them…and to me and all the caregiving staff.

Thank you for being there for our cows, goats, sheep, and our newly rescued baby horse this winter.

For the animals,
Kathy Keefe
Shelter Director
