FT – Development Associate

Woodstock Farm Sanctuary is seeking a Full-Time Development Associate!

Organizational Description

Woodstock Farm Sanctuary rescues farmed animals and gives them care and sanctuary, connects animals with people to advance veganism, and advocates for animal rights in alliance with other social justice movements. We welcome visitors to come and meet animals who are most commonly exploited, abused, and killed in animal agriculture. Our animal residents are given lifelong sanctuary and are treated with respect as individuals. By giving farmed animals the chance to live their lives with dignity and by sharing their stories, we advocate for veganism and aim to reduce suffering for all.

Job Overview

The Development Associate will report to the Development Manager and work closely with the Communications Manager, Program Manager, and other administrative staff. This position supports all aspects of fundraising with a focus on donor engagement and stewardship, database and other systems, writing, and research. The Development Associate will assist with annual fund, major gifts, grants, planned giving, workplace giving, and events as well as helping with social media and communications as needed.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Donor Stewardship: work with Development Manager to put together stewardship plan for donors (customized mailings, Thank You calls, etc); help with customized mailings through direct mail or internal resources; renew and increase monthly giving and work on marketing plan. Develop stewardship plans for different campaigns and types of donors and follow through.

 Fundraising Marketing: Manage website pages for sponsored animals; photographing animals and events as needed. Maintain proficiency in Classy (donor giving software used) and help manage giving and fundraising event pages, including clean up and standardization. Copy writing for fundraising: learning about copy writing for appeals and marketing and helping as needed; helping edit all documents; help with all annual fund projects. Basic design for simple fundraising campaigns. Assist the Development Manager in soliciting corporate sponsors.

 Donor Acknowledgement: be the lead on systems and sending of donor acknowledgments; including recruiting and training volunteers to help during busy times; making sure all gifts are acknowledged correctly and in a timely manner even those the Associate is not directly responsible for sending.

Database Management: be trained as one of our trainers and working with Administrative Manager to train entry staff on best practices and data consistency; learn database reporting; do data entry as needed for constituents (visit notes; etc.); manage grants database with Development Manager; responsible for data quality on donor records; work with admin staff to maintain processes.

Events: assist in all donor events (mostly house parties); attending events in NYC and Philadelphia as required. Attending events onsite as required.

Administrative and Management: Assist Development Manager with paperwork and financial reconciliations. Potential to supervise Development interns and volunteers. Manage consultants and venders on an as-needed basis. Answer calls and inquiries from the public.

This position requires standing and sitting for hours at a time, interacting with farmed animals, and moving around the large Sanctuary property for tours, events, and donor visits.

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree in related field or applicable experience
  • At least two years of direct experience in administrative support, customer service, and/or non-profit work
  • Basic design and photo editing skills
  • Experience in project management and event management preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask
  • Emotive writing experience preferred
  • Proficiency in or ability to learn database management and reporting
