We are a vegan organization and the person filling this position should embrace this lifestyle to represent our mission.The Marketing and Communications Manager will report to the Executive Director and work closely with the Development Manager, Shelter Manager, and collaboratively with other team members across departments to help get Woodstock Sanctuary’s media presence to a new level.DutiesPlanningCreate long-and short-terms communications plansCreate and maintain systems to improve institutional memory and enhance accessCreate a process and pipeline for all external communicationsBuild upon standards around the Sanctuary’s identity and styleCo-coordinate work with in-house and outsourced designersSet and meet metrics and benchmarks around touches, TOS, conversions, etc., in social media and other forms of mediaSocial MediaCoordinate communications plans and campaigns to maximize mission impact through leveraging social mediaCreate, edit, manage and post content according to schedules and long and short term plans, and maintain the agility to be opportunistic as wellModerate comment threads on active posts and respond to messages promptlyImplement strategies to increase social media presence and to track results and impactFamiliarity across platforms and ability to train other staff in platformsPrint MediaCo-create content for signage, brochures, flyers, rack cards, and other marketing materialsDo basic design where templates existAdvertising and Promotions Coordinate with vendors to promote sanctuary programs, events and educationDirect advertising campaigns and the creation of individual advertisementsMaintain and update segmented list of advertising resources to be targeted for various initiativesWebsite ManagementUpdate site’s backlog of dated contentCreate plan to keep website fresh and up-to-dateManage and execute new content, new pages, images and updates dailyCoordinate with vendors around back-end capacity, SEO, etc.Ability to train interns and staff in website managementEarned MediaCultivate press relationshipsCreate both general and targeted, item-specific press kitsMaintain and update database of contactsDraft press releases and co-coordinate earned media engagementStrategically leverage Woodstock Farm Sanctuary messaging, programs, rescues and victories to get prompt earned media coverage in local, regional, and national outletsRequirementsQualifications4-year degree in related field or applicable experienceAt least three years direct experience in marketing and external communications, preferably in nonprofit advocacy or social justiceDemonstrated ability to manage each facet of the communications planAbility to hire, supervise and mentor an assistant and intern at any given timeSkillsExcellent writer with skills in copy, marketing, blog, social media, and press release writing stylesSkills in fundraising and appeal writing is a plusExtremely tech and systems savvy, familiarity with Salesforce, Mailchimp, Formstack, ClassyBasic graphic design background a plusAbility to train staff and manage others and projects as neededHigh level of organizational skills and ability to shift seamlessly and quickly from project to project in order to meet multiple deadlinesDatabase knowledgeStrong copy editing and proof reading skillsAbility to maintain and expand on our creative and quirky brand identity through all media streamsThis is a full-time, non-exempt position. Woodstock Sanctuary prefers the Marketing and Communications Manager work onsite, but we are open to discussing remote work with the right candidate, such that relocation for distant applicants may not be necessary. Candidates for a remote position must be within commuting distance of High Falls NY (no more than 3-4 hours).
