Marketing Assistant

Woodstock Farm Sanctuary envisions a peaceful world rooted in respect and justice for all living beings.  We rescue farmed animals and give them care and sanctuary, connect animals with people to advance veganism, and advocate for animal rights in alliance with other social justice movements.

At the heart of our mission is the hands-on work of rescuing, rehabilitating and caring for farmed animal refugees, advocating for animal rights, and educating the public about these issues. Located in New York state’s Hudson Valley region 90 minutes from New York City, the area boasts a rich cultural and artistic heritage, offering a rare mix of rural and cosmopolitan resources.  We host thousands of visitors every year between our event, tour, and volunteer programs.

 

Job Overview

The Marketing Assistant will report to the Marketing and Communications Manager and work closely with the Development team and collaboratively with other staff across departments. This position supports all aspects of marketing and Sanctuary communications with a focus on social media.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Social media: Assist in creating, editing and posting content across all social media channels, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, and Snapchat. Help moderate and monitor conversations on all accounts. Work closely with the Marketing and Communications Manager to develop and maintain a social media calendar and plan.

Website: Help with drafting new content, pages and images to keep the website up-to-date. Edit webpages as needed.

Press:Assist with media tours and visits as needed. Proofread and edit press releases. Help research and maintain database of current and new press contacts.

Events: Assist with the promotion and execution of on and off-site special events as needed.

Other marketing and promotions:Photograph animals and events as needed. Assist with drafting and editing monthly email newsletters. Basic design for social media and marketing campaigns. Proofread and edit marketing materials. Work with external designers and vendors to assist with creating and promoting new merchandise. Assist the Development team with various fundraising campaigns as needed.

Administrative: Assist Marketing and Communications Manager with paperwork, coordinating with vendors, and administrative tasks. Potential to supervise marketing interns. Answer calls and inquiries from the public.

This is a full-time position based on-site at our location in High Falls, NY. It requires being stationary for hours at a time, interacting with farmed animals, and moving around the large Sanctuary property for tours, events and media visits.

Qualifications and skills

  • Two years of experience in marketing, social media, non-profit work or related field
  • Knowledge and proficiency with social media platforms required
  • General photography and video skills required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to think creatively and work quickly
  • Excellent verbal, writing, proofreading and editing skills
  • Flexibility and openness to a multitude of tasks
  • Knowledge of WordPress a plus
  • Flexible schedule with ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
