Internships

The internship program at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary provides individuals with a unique opportunity to advocate for and connect with farmed animals, to establish community with like-minded people, and to obtain real-life and resumé-worthy experience.  We offer on-site housing and a weekly $100 cost of living reimbursement.

AVAILABLE INTERNSHIPS

Animal Caregiving – max. of 6 interns per session
Marketing & Communications – max. of 2 interns per session
Development & Administrative – max. of 2 interns per session
Special Events & Programs– 1 intern per session (full- or part-time)

2018 INTERNSHIP SESSIONS

Spring Session: Mar 5 – May 27, 2018*  (No Application Deadline)
Summer Session: May 29 – Aug 26, 2018 (Application Deadline: April 1, 2018)
Fall Session: Aug 28 – Nov 25, 2018 (Application Deadline: August 1, 2018)
Winter Session: Nov 27, 2018 – Feb 24, 2019* (No Application Deadline)

SCHEDULES

Interns will be scheduled to work 36-40hrs each week of their session.**

REIMBURSEMENT

We offer a $100 cost of living reimbursement to all interns working their scheduled 36-40hrs work-week.  This reimbursement is paid out on a bi-weekly cycle (every other Tuesday).  We understand that illnesses and other unforeseen difficulties can affect availability, so the reimbursement is tiered as follows:

31-40hrs worked in a week = $100
20-30hrs worked in a week = $50
0-19hrs worked in a week = $0

MEALS

Interns are responsible for buying and preparing their own food.

HOUSING

Housing is available on-site for interns who cannot commute.  Housing is communal and occasionally co-ed.

VEGAN LIVING

Out of respect for the animals and the work that WFS does, all staff and interns are required to maintain a vegan diet while on sanctuary grounds. Shared kitchen facilities are available. Food markets and restaurants are within a 15-minute drive.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

*Part-time schedules and abbreviated sessions may be considered for Marketing & Communications and Development & Administrative interns for Spring and Winter sessions. The aforementioned reimbursement tiers will be used to determine what, if any, reimbursement will be offered part-timers.  Housing will not be provided to any part-timer scheduled to work less than 30hrs per week.  Please contact info@woodstocksanctuary.org to inquire.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Animal feeding and watering.
  • Barn and habitat cleaning and enrichment.
  • Shelter cleaning projects.
  • Assisting with animal health checks.
  • Animal monitoring for special needs animals.
  • Additional non-animal related tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Good animal behavior observation skills.
  • Ability to work in harsh/all weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor and lifting.
  • Must be able to follow detailed instructions and meet animal care schedules.
  • Ability to work well with a variety of people.
  • Very reliable and dependable.
  • Commitment to WFS animal care policies and standards.
  • Commitment to WFS organizational programs and goals.
  • Flexibility and openness to a multitude of tasks.

Specifications:

  • Volunteer commitment of 40 hours per week.
  • Weekends and holidays may be required.
  • Two month minimum commitment required.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist with mailings, filing, and special projects as needed.
  • Assist with membership/donation acknowledgments.
  • Run errands and make post office runs as needed.
  • Assist with on- or off-site events as needed (might include evening or weekend hours).
  • Assist with other administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • General knowledge of business practices (ability to compose a proper letter, good phone manners, etc.).
  • Word and Excel proficiency preferred.
  • Commitment to WFS organizational programs and goals.
  • Flexibility and openness to a multitude of tasks.

Specifications:

  • Volunteer commitment of 20-40 hours per week.
  • Must be willing to help on weekends and have flexibly to help with some evening hours.
  • Two month minimum commitment.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Assist with writing and editing content for the website, social media, and press materials.
  • Assist the Marketing & Communications Manager with marketing and media relations initiatives as needed.
  • Provide special event help as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Photography skills are plus.
  • Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube preferred.
  • Word and Excel proficiency preferred.
  • Familiarity with Mac OS preferred.
  • General knowledge of business practices (ability to compose a proper letter, good phone manners, etc.).
  • Commitment to WFS organizational programs and goals.
  • Flexibility and openness to a multitude of tasks.

Specifications:

  • Volunteer commitment of 20-40 hours per week.
  • Weekends and holidays may be required.
  • Two month minimum commitment. required.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  •  Assist Programs Manager with event-related tasks such as setup, preparing spaces, answering event and ticket inquiries
  • Assist Development department with in-kind and event/sponsorship donation acknowledgments
  • Assist with planning and in-kind solicitations for special events via email and phone
  • Run errands and make post office runs as needed
  • Assist with other administrative tasks as needed

Qualifications:

  • General customer service and sales skills
  • General knowledge of business practices (ability to compose a formal letter, good phone manners, etc)
  • Commitment to Sanctuary organizational programs and goals
  • Flexibility and openness to a multitude of tasks
  • Current driver’s license preferred but not required

Specifications:

  • Volunteer commitment of at least 20 hours per week
  • Some weekends are required
  • Two-month minimum commitment preferred
