The photo of Gerty that Mike, his rescuer, sent us
NOVEMBER 2011. Gerty was a young rooster who appeared on a city street in Queens and was taken in by a concerned man named Mike. He is a former NYC police officer and in the few weeks he took care of this little guy Gerty a profound effect on him. Mike was struck by how full-of-personality he is and has repeatedly said that he will never eat chicken again.

Of course here are the Sanctuary we are VERY familiar with the individual personalities of all our animals, from 2500lb cows down to every little chicken!
Gerty has charmed the staff and volunteers and with his never-ending spunk and curiosity, and very soon we look forward to introducing him to a larger flock.
