Other than a small incident of bumblefoot (a painful foot infection), the nearly seven-year-old Speckle has hardly had any health issues. She was one of the original white birds, who all came in 2005, abandoned in a Brooklyn parking lot. Brooklyn had endured heavy rain for days when Speckle’s group was found, so some unfortunately drowned as a result. With grey specks throughout her feathers, Speckle came with almost 40 others, most of whom have passed or left the farm. Lately Speckle has picked up a habit of “losing” her identity band. We can only guess she wants to blend in with the younger girls, and likes to “lose” what indicates her as an older lady.
