Newly rescued chickens have their first fun in the sun

Saturday, October 11, 2014

It is such a moving experience to see rescued farmed animals enjoying their freedom for the very first time.  After spending a week in recovery, the newest members of our sanctuary family were finally able to explore the outside world.  They were a little hesitant at first, acting with more caution than curiosity, but with some gentle guidance, the little chickens quickly became more comfortable and confident in their new surroundings.

These beautiful birds were rescued from the Kaporos ceremonies that took place last week in NYC.  They came to us sick and frightened, having just been through a very traumatic experience.  They spent their first days here in our treatment area, where they could receive the care they urgently needed.

This week, these newly rescued chickens were able to get out into the sunshine, which was probably the first time these birds ever felt the grass under their feet.  We caught this precious moment on camera.

This was a happy day for all of us at the sanctuary!
