Trudie Rescued from Being Discarded in the Trash Friday, December 26, 2014DECEMBER 26, 2014: It’s getting and cold here at the Sanctuary. All of the animals are bundled up and enjoying their warm barns and hay.We use old canvas bags to make custom slings. In this case it’s part of her physical therapy, to help her build some muscle. But one special little hen is getting some TLC and a Christmas at home. Trudie most likely escaped from a live animal market in Brooklyn. She was in bad shape — malnourished and neglected, with a severely hurt foot. A kind person saw her being loaded into a trash bin with a shovel, found her and frantically tried to find a home for her. Trudie spent a few nights with our amazing volunteer Tomoko who then drove her to the Sanctuary.Because she’s still recovering and loves spending time with people, she is spending Christmas at our Shelter Manager Dawnell’s house. Dawnell is giving her daily physical therapy, special treats, and (of course) special one-one time that Trudie loves. It is heart-warming to see people step up to help one animal in need. Especially a chicken like Trudie, as chickens suffer the most in animal agriculture.Trudie matters to us! And we know she matters to you.You can sponsor Trudie or make a one-time donation in her honor. Trudie was brought home by our shelter manager Dawnell, so that she could keep an eye on Trudie’s condition.
