Our New Mission & Vision Statements

Tuesday, May 02, 2017

I am so honored and happy to be writing you as Woodstock Farm Sanctuary’s new Executive Director. I already know many of you from my time working here as Development Director for the past three years!

Protecting and advocating for animals has been the major theme of my life. I grew up with a biologist father and an animal loving mother. Empathy and respect for animals and nature were family principles.

After working at the Pennsylvania SPCA and Best Friends Animal Society, I came here to be Woodstock Farm Sanctuary’s first Development Director. I wanted to help farmed animals – they are the ones being bred, exploited, and killed by the billions.

Animal rights, despite having a long history of some great leaders and change, is still in a fairly nascent phase. We now have many more alternatives to animal products and an increased understanding of veganism nationally, but we are competing with the horrific advancements of the powerful animal agriculture industry. An industry that is built on brutalizing bodies and polluting the planet. But we are going to win. We have a responsibility to the beautiful individuals who are born into that system to never relent and never give up. Their lives are short and painful. Ours are long and we have to make them meaningful.

Woodstock  Sanctuary has a unique and powerful role to serve. We are here to save individuals….and thus illuminate the lives of those who cannot be saved. Sanctuaries like Woodstock Sanctuary save lives by the millions through rescue, impact, and advocacy.

As part of our push forward, I wanted to let you know that we have a new vision statement and mission statement to help guide us:

Our new vision statement: We envision a peaceful world rooted in respect and justice for all living beings.

Our new mission statement: We rescue farmed animals and give them care and sanctuary, connect animals with people to advance veganism, and advocate for animal rights in alliance with other social justice movements.

We cannot do this without you. I am honored to be writing this to you – and am inspired by you and all those I know who stand with us at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary.

For the animals,
Rachel McCrystal
Executive Director
