Rescued: 15 egg-laying hens Monday, April 30, 2018 15 hens have been brought to Woodstock Farm Sanctuary. Our caregivers are working tirelessly to make space and give them immediate care. Your gift toward their care would help so much. These poor hens endured unimaginable cruelty for their eggs in a backyard operation in Philadelphia, where it is illegal to own chickens. The hens were bloody and weak from neglect. They were kept isolated in a small pen — suffering and hidden away with little hope of escaping this nightmare. We can only imagine the fear and hopelessness they must’ve felt. And now they are finally safe from harm. We are so upset thinking about how these poor girls were exploited and abused all in the name of food. Sadly, one little girl passed away a few hours after she arrived to the Sanctuary. We did all we could but she was too weak. Her sisters are all healthier and I know they will survive, with your help. We will do everything we can to try to make up for their horrific past by giving them the love and care they deserve. Thank you to all the supporters who stepped up and helped us name this flock to capture their unique personalities and honor their individuality. Watch our our announcement video to hear what we’re calling these girls! [Watch here] Thank you for caring about chickens when so many turn a blind eye. Together we will inspire compassion for farmed animals everywhere.
