Rest peacefully, Gershwin

Wednesday, March 07, 2018

We have some very sad news to share. Gershwin the calf was rescued from the dairy industry and he had been at the vet for a few days due to health complications. We received the devastating news that he had a fatal and contagious bovine virus that was going to make his life short and full of suffering. So we listened to the advice of the vets at Cornell University and made the difficult decision to let him go.

We are completely heartbroken. We’re sorry, Gershwin, that we couldn’t save you. But you experienced love and kindness during your short life here on earth, and that gives us some solace.

Gershwin was a victim of the dairy industry — and he was one of millions. We will continue to speak out against this industry built on exploiting female reproduction and killing babies. This unconscionable cruelty must stop.

We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support we’ve received from all of our friends and supporters. And we’re grateful that we were able to give Gershwin a few days of love.

“The song is ended…but the melody lingers on.” Irving Berlin
