The 3 Little Pigs: Brandi, Erica & Isaac Friday, July 26, 2013 Erica Isaac Chilling in their barn Brandi, Erica and Isaac are three adolescent pig siblings who were rescued from a terrible neglect case along with dozens of other animals. Their “owner” has been charged with several counts of failure to provide proper sustenance and failure to provide food and drink to an impounded animal, both misdemeanors under state agriculture law. Carol DiPetro was arrested in May after Humane Law Enforcement Officers at Ulster County SPCA and Shawangunk Town Police executed a search warrant on her property in Pine Bush, NY. A total of 31 living animals were found and relocated to shelters. Several dead animals were also found on the property, though the cause of death was undetermined. The surviving farm animals suffered from the effects of long-term malnutrition, hoof and dental problems, sunburn injuries, parasites while being housed in improper, unhygienic and dangerous pens due to debris, large amounts of waste material, lack of shelter and potable water. These three fortunate survivors are doing tremendously better and enjoying plenty of food, spacious pasture, mud baths and a comfy straw filled pen. They LOVE human attention and all the belly rubs they can get! All 3 pigs have now been spayed and neutered–the spays at Cornell Veterinary Hospital costing upwards of $2000. Your support helps us help animals like Brandi, Erica and Isaac. We’re thankful for our partnership with the Ulster County SPCA, a no-kill shelter in our area that not only cares for cats, dogs, rabbits and other companion animals but is also helping bring farmed animals in need to safety as well. The UCSPCA Humane Law Department is called upon to help in cruelty cases, and they are instrumental in getting animals out of harms way. Building a case and implementing a rescue is a huge impact on their regular shelter operations so as a charitable organization, they need your help too.
