Introducing our New Executive Director

Friday, April 28, 2017

We have some exciting news from Woodstock Farm Sanctuary!

After an extensive national search, our Board of Directors is very happy to announce that we have a new Executive Director. She brings with her a decade of leadership in the sanctuary, animal rights, and animal rescue movements. And she is already familiar to many of our friends and supporters as she’s been with us for the last three years!

Our new Executive Director Rachel McCrystal joined Woodstock Farm Sanctuary in April of 2014 as the organization’s first Development Director. She’s overseen the growth and stability of the organization and helped lead the move to our new property. Prior to that she served in senior leadership positions at Best Friends Animal Society and the Pennsylvania SPCA.

“Rachel represents a new generation of leadership in the animal rights community, and a bright new chapter in the story of Woodstock Farm Sanctuary. Her entrepreneurial spirit, along with her expertise in strategic planning and donor engagement, will continue to propel the organization’s momentum and growth. Her graceful communication skills and great sense of humor will amplify Woodstock Sanctuary’s distinct voice in the movement. Most important, Rachel’s compassion and love for the resident animals at the Sanctuary will anchor her leadership of our extraordinary staff and volunteers.” — David Cabrera, Woodstock Farm Sanctuary Board President

The staff and Board of Directors extend our deepest thanks and gratitude to our Interim Executive Director Jeff Lydon who is staying on as our Managing Director, managing all Sanctuary operations and continuing his great career in animal rights leadership. Jeff had the following to say: “It’s impossible to understate what an honor it has been to lead the extraordinary team at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary through the past year and a half. Working in partnership with Rachel has shown me her natural gifts as a leader among leaders. During the executive search process, I emphatically recommended Rachel for the position. The animals of the Sanctuary and everyone in the growing Woodstock Sanctuary community can look forward to continuing our best traditions and breaking new ground with Rachel as our Executive Director.”

Everyone who knows Rachel knows that she is celebrating this by sitting in the goat pasture and cuddling with The Tiniest Herd. She will also be leading the Sanctuary’s contingent in Washington DC on April 29th at the People’s Climate March, to show the connection between animal agriculture and climate change.

“I’ve been so honored to be a part of this community for the last three years and am thrilled to move into this new role,” Rachel says. “Woodstock Sanctuary is my favorite place on earth and I am so deeply committed to the animals and our values of veganism and justice. I look forward to leading Woodstock Sanctuary in its vital mission to save more lives.”

Thank you for being with us as we continue to expand our activism and our rescue efforts. We are all so excited about what’s next!
