Internships

The internship program at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary provides individuals with a unique opportunity to advocate for and connect with farmed animals, to establish community with like-minded people, and to obtain real-life and resumé-worthy experience. We offer full-time interns onsite housing, a cost-of-living reimbursement up to $150 per week, and weekly transportation for grocery shopping.

Office Internships: Due to COVID-19, office internships in administration, marketing, education, and development are suspended until further notice.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION SCHOLARSHIPS

BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) applicants may be eligible for additional reimbursement to cover the cost of gear and travel. Please refer to the application form.

INTERNSHIP SESSIONS AND TIMING

Admission to the internship program occurs on a rolling basis. The minimum internship period is one month, and the maximum is three months.

SCHEDULES

Full-time interns are scheduled to work 40 hours per week, and schedules regularly include weekends.

COST-OF-LIVING REIMBURSEMENT

Interning 30-40 hours per week= $150

Interning 20-29 hours per week= $75

Interns serving less than 20 hours per week are not eligible for reimbursements.

MEALS

Interns are responsible for buying and preparing their own meals.

HOUSING

Communal housing is available onsite for full-time interns who cannot commute. Interns have their own bedrooms. Companion animals are not permitted.

VEGAN LIVING

Out of respect for the animals and the work that Woodstock Farm Sanctuary does, all staff and interns are required to maintain a plant-based (vegan) diet, while avoiding any clothing made from animals (wool, leather, fur, down, etc.) on sanctuary grounds. Shared kitchen facilities are available with common kitchenware. Food markets and restaurants are within a 15-minute drive.

All applicants must be 18 years of age or older with a demonstrated commitment to the mission, goals, and values of Woodstock Farm Sanctuary.

Animal Caregiving Shelter Intern

The Shelter Team is responsible for the daily care of the 350+ rescued animals living at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary. Animal Caregiving Interns are a vital part of the daily functioning of the sanctuary, and we could not do the work that we do without their help. Although responsibilities vary depending on the seasons and needs of the shelter, below is what is typically expected all year round from our Animal Caregiving Interns.

Responsibilities & Duties:

• Feeding out hay to the goats, sheep, and rabbits
• Cleaning cages
• Making supplement treats for the pigs, cows, and chickens
• Cleaning water bowls and troughs, and replenishing them with fresh water
• Collecting eggs to be composted
• Mucking and cleaning out barns, coops, and pens
• Doing laundry
• Supporting staff during health checks and treatments, when needed
• Observing animal behavior and getting to know each animal as an individual
• Washing dishes
• Assisting with farm errands like supply runs, picking up produce, and vet transports, when needed
• Taking out garbage and recycling
• Unloading hay deliveries

 

Qualifications:

• Willing and able to perform all responsibilities and duties
• Ability to maintain a positive and respectful attitude
• Strong team player while having the ability to work independently
• Capable of working in harsh/all weather conditions
• Reliable and hard working
• Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, and consistently lifting at least 50 pounds unassisted
• No previous animal experience necessary
