Award-winning veggie food trucks and booths, coffee bar from Brewing Good Coffee Co., live music, and vegan- and animal-themed tattoos done on-site by the artists from Gristle Tattoo in Brooklyn! Whitecliff Vineyard will also be selling and sampling their sustainably-produced artisanal vegan wines. Plus, a bouncy castle and waterslide for kids to enjoy! Spend the day with family and friends and meet 400 friendly rescued cows, pigs, goats, turkeys and more! Your participation directly benefits our rescue, shelter and outreach work for farmed animals. *Note: there will be no regular Sanctuary tours on the event date, but there will be opportunities to interact with the animals, learn their stories, and ask questions of our knowledgeable humane educators and volunteers. Speakers & Presenters: 1PM ◊ Jo-Anne McArthur is an award-winning photographer, author, and educator based in Toronto, Canada. Through her long-term body of work, We Animals, she has been documenting our complex relationship with animals around the globe for fifteen years. Thousands of these images are made available for free to anyone helping animals at weanimalsarchive.org. She also co-founded the Unbound Project to document the women on the front lines of animal advocacy. McArthur is a sought-after speaker and is the author of two books, We Animals (2014), and Captive (2017). 12PM ◊ Berto Calkins, also known as Tatted Vegan, was born and raised in New York City. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the City College of New York with a B.A in Communications (Advertising/Public Relations). It was while living in California that he decided to go vegan after reading an article that mentioned that it is not good karma to eat animals. Berto has been vegan since April 2014. He is also a Certified Personal Trainer, who not only advocates for animal rights through fitness, but also promotes ending the exploitation of animals through food and fashion. 11AM ◊ Local musicians Will Play & Nina Mars will be joining us earlier in the day to perform some live music. Combining 25 years of performing experience with compelling, original music, Will Play and Nina Mars create a musical landscape like no other. The audience is taken along on a sonic journey that includes a unique mix of folk, jazz, and world music – with an occasional polka! Stephanie Nardi-Cyrus, RDN of Muddy Foot Nutrition will be joining us throughout the day for an “ask a vegan dietitian” booth at the event. She is a non-diet dietitian and believes that health can come at all sizes. She is passionate about love, for the self, for other humans, and for all whom we share the world with.
