Rebecca was rescued in late September 2017 before the Kaporos rituals started in the streets of Brooklyn. A warmer September than usual, she would have been sitting out in 85 degree heat; stacked with thousands of other baby chickens in crates without food or water or protection from the elements. She would have been suffering, possibly hurt and sick, and terrified. These babies saw sun for the first time as their crates were unloaded on the streets, and then sat there, waiting to be killed.

Rebecca is now safe and being cared for at the Sanctuary, but for the rest of the birds who won’t make it, we urge you to speak out against using innocent beings in these rituals. Visit the Alliance to End Kaporos website to learn more about the rituals and how you can stop the use of chickens as Kaporos.
