Sassy
In the fall of 2015, multiple sanctuaries rescued over 120 animals from a backyard butcher in Montgomery, NY. These poor animals were kept in horrendous conditions — crammed in barns with little food and living space. Woodstock Sanctuary took in five sheep, six pigs and nine goats, who were by far the sickest of all those we rescued. Most of the goats had pneumonia, lice, and worms and little did we know, a few were also pregnant.
Sassy came to us from this rescue initially testing positive for pregnancy, but then tested negative a few weeks later. False pregnancies are very common among goats so when her second test came up negative, we thought she had a false pregnancy. Soon after one of the other pregnant goats Tovah gave birth, Sassy went into labor, welcoming little Lucie and Tuesday into the world.
Years later, and Sassy gets to spend every day with her family. A part of the Tiniest Herd, Sassy’s family is one of the first group of goats people meet near the entrance of the Sanctuary. Sassy is like her name, sassy, and very social. She loves a good head and back scratch from anyone who is willing.
