Kiwi
Kiwi was raised as part of a school hatching project and, when she was “too big” for the classroom, she was fortunately taken in by a kind couple. Sadly, soon after that she was attacked by a predator, leaving her paralyzed. Kiwi came to Woodstock Farm Sanctuary shortly after her attack in October 2020, where she began to receive physical therapy. Our caregivers do full range of motion with her legs, put her in a tub or pool each day where she can swim, and lift her up over a towel so she can find her balance without slipping on the floor.
We gave Kiwi two sets of wheeled prosthetics to help her gain strength in her legs, but the one pair of wheels were too big for her—so we swapped them out for some scooter wheels! Tenacious and resilient Kiwi loves to show off her walking skills in wheels and especially loves to roll down grassy hills! She also enjoys spending time with fellow ducks and chickens with limited mobility, whether they are sharing a meal or splashing together at water therapy. Kiwi will never walk entirely on her own again, but she has never given up on herself—we are so inspired by her.
