Job Overview
The Shelter Assistant is a full-time, year-round, non-exempt position (hourly) that reports to the Shelter Manager. Some weekend and evening hours are expected.
Duties + Responsibilities
Trains & oversees interns.
Helps with cleaning and maintaining barns, coops, pastures, grounds, and animal shelter buildings.
Assists with animal treatments and health checks as needed.
Feeds and gives all residents water.
Assists in unloading hay and straw deliveries.
Transports animals as needed.
Assists the Volunteer Coordinator with volunteers and cleaning projects as needed.
Tending to the needs of shelter as needs arise.
Experience + Qualifications
Comfort around farmed animals & having a willingness to learn how to handle them properly.
Ability to train people & to train them with kindness and patience.
Tractor and truck-and-trailer experience, or a willingness to learn how to operate them.
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
A clean driver’s license.
Able to lift at least 50 pounds without assistance.

Experience working with farmed animals is a plus but is not required.
