The magic of fall in Sanctuary

It’s winding down in the season over here at Woodstock—we’re nearing our last visiting weekend and the air is cooling in preparation for the winter months. There’s something magical about the fall air here at the Sanctuary, it almost smells like crisp apples and you can hear the crunching of leaves from the rescued goats walking in their colorful pastures or getting a nibble of the leaves that are still clinging onto the trees.

You may think that the fun is all over, maybe you think “Summer is the peak season for visiting animal sanctuaries!”, but we’re here to say otherwise. Fall in fact might just be the BEST season for visiting. Why you ask? Keep reading to find out.

Upcycling Pumpkins

Bunny the pig enjoying a donated pumpkin.

You may not know, but pumpkins are a pretty big deal around here during the fall months. Every year, local supporters love to donate their gently used pumpkins to our residents rather than throwing them out. What does this mean to someone like Bunny the rescued pig? Pumpkin snacks! If you happen to visit soon, you may just witness some pumpkin snacking on your tour using these upcycled pumpkins. It’s a treat for everyone involved. You can even donate pumpkins during your visit, as long as they’re still good to snack on! Bunny and her friends really appreciate it.

Leaf Peeping

Ok, we might be a bit bias for this one but who can blame us? If you’ve never been to the Hudson Valley you really are missing out on our leaf-peeping season. The colors over here get really vibrant, it almost feels like you’re getting teleported to another dimension at times. It’s especially special during tours to see all the gorgeous leaves right before the trees go barren for the winter. A plus? Those leaves make for some really awesome fall backdrops - perfect for selfies with our residents!

Cozy Merch + Our Sanctuary Store

Not to toot our own horn, but our merch is kind of the best. Pair our cozy and super warm sweatshirts with a chilly walk around the sanctuary? Match made in heaven. You can find our fan-favorite sweatshirts along with so much more (mugs for your pumpkin coffee, anyone?) at our Sanctuary Store once you finish up a tour! It’s a great way to finish after a long day full of pig cuddles and cow kisses.
