What’s it like to visit Woodstock Farm Sanctuary?

Visiting season is officially here! We are so excited to welcome you back to the Sanctuary again, and the animal residents are ready to make new friends after a long winter. If you’ve never come to see us before, here’s what you can expect on your visit!

Up-close encounters

When you visit Woodstock Sanctuary, our hope is that you make a personal connection with our animal residents. They are representative of the billions of animals who are killed and exploited for food in the United States every year. We hope that you see their unique personalities, relationships with one another, and the peaceful lives they live in Sanctuary. Who you might meet depends on the day, but here are just a few of the residents along the tour route!

Debbie, part of our elder goat herd, was rescued from the dairy industry.

Curly, age 11, was rescued from a pig farm when she was just a few months old.

Education

Our tours are educational and are meant to teach our visitors about the realities of our food system and shed light on the exploitation that non-human animals endure. You’ll learn about the way humans have bred farmed animals to harmful extremes for our benefit. Our staff is excited to share ways we can all work to reduce our consumption of animals and animal products. Visiting a sanctuary is one of the only ways to meet farmed animals who are living out their natural lifespans and won’t be killed for human consumption. We are a compassionate alternative to visiting a petting zoo or farm.

Peaceful grounds

Everything is green and the animals are enjoying spending their grazing days in the sunshine. The tour loop is about a mile of walking our peaceful grounds. Here at Woodstock, we take care of rescued animals for their entire lives and are a home for many seniors. Their relaxed pace of life gives a calming energy to the Sanctuary that we hope stays with you beyond your visit.

After the tour

Check out the merch—we update our merch all the time, and have some great new items in for Spring, including this bunny hat! Every purchase made in the shop goes toward supporting our animal residents.

Membership—if you want to visit the Sanctuary more than once this year, becoming a member is a smart move! Members can jump on any Saturday tour for free, and enjoy discounts at our Sanctuary store.

As a nonprofit, we rely on donations to keep everything running and give our residents the best life we possibly can. Your ticket purchase directly supports our work and the care of all the animals you will see on your tour. We can’t wait to see you soon!
