ANTONIO

In 2012, a mother pig named Julia was being severely beaten and abused at a pig breeding operation. A whistleblower exposed the abuse and a very-pregnant Julia was rescued by Farm Sanctuary. The day after her rescue, she gave birth to 16 piglets (such a large litter is due to modern breeding practices) and Woodstock Sanctuary took in two of them, Antonio and his sister Bertha.

Born into a life of compassion and sanctuary, Antonio and Bertha grew up knowing nothing but love, happiness, and respect. After eight years together, Bertha sadly passed away after an emergency medical situation in the summer of 2020. But Antonio is still doing well – he spends his days napping with his friends Curly and Amelia, or roaming in the pasture smelling flowers and enjoying his wallow. Because Antonio has only ever known kindness, he has a heart of gold and loves belly rubs!
