Evie
Evie is was about seven years old when she arrived at the Sanctuary in October 2025. Evie is a Nubian goat, a breed often exploited in the meat and dairy industries, and a family was raising her as a 4H goat. Fortunately, she and her sister were spared this fate and adopted as companions when the family relocated. Evie’s sister passed away in autumn of 2025, and her new family grew concerned, as they did not want her to be alone.
Early in the morning of Oct 29th, Evie was attacked by a bear. Her human companion interrupted the attack, saving Evie’s life, but she was left with several wounds. Her caretaker quickly contacted a vet and sought emergency rescue to prevent another incident and get her long-term medical care. When we learned of this sweet girl, we knew we had to help.
Evie was in complete shock when she arrived at the Sanctuary. We quickly treated her wounds and did our best to make her feel at home. Raised with kindness, Evie was quite sociable and loved attention from the team once the initial shock of the attack and transport faded. After a necessary quarantine, she was introduced to our older, gentle herd of goats.
When Evie arrived, we also learned that she had a chronically diseased udder. This was, not only painful for her, but put her at risk of developing a life-threatening infection. In December 2025, Evie underwent a mastectomy and has now fully healed from this procedure. She is so happy to be living alongside fellow goats once more, snuggling in clean bedding and getting lots of attention. She is so patient with youngster James and puts up with a lot of his antics!
This special girl has been through so much, but she will only know love and safety from now on.
