Remy

In December of 2021, we were notified about a very young goat in Virginia who was born with severely bent front legs. We soon found out that this poor goat came from a dairy and meat farm, but was put aside due to his leg condition. He was deemed unprofitable and did not receive proper medical attention.

Thankfully another small sanctuary stepped in to rescue him and reached out to us because they did not have the resources for his care. We quickly welcomed little Remy, knowing there was a long road ahead, but that we had the resources for his special needs. Once home with us, we made sure that Remy was as comfortable as possible. Due to his front legs being bent, it was both difficult and painful for Remy to get around. We knew we had to act quickly to adjust this. After multiple surgeries, Remy ended up having a partial amputation of both front legs.

During Remy’s healing process, we tested and researched many different options through which he would have a better quality of life, along with more mobility and independence. Remy tried out both custom prosthetics and a custom wheeled cart! He is most comfortable in his cart for now and made a huge move in the summer of 2023, out of the Med Barn and into his very own herd! Remy loves living alongside his fellow goats and has made friends with Tara, Pia, and Zia. He has so much independence now! Remy’s story is one of true resilience and he has quickly become a sanctuary star, gathering support from thousands of people.
