Tara

Tara is one of six goats rescued from a dairy operation in 2015. These poor animals were found in the most horrific conditions, forced to live alongside dozens of dead goats. They were sick, starving, and neglected. Local authorities seized the surviving goats but then decided to send them to auction. We knew we couldn’t let this happen when we had the opportunity and the space to help. These goats would have been sold for meat or forced back into dairy production.

When Tara arrived at the Sanctuary, she was still a baby, believed to be just eight months old. She was immediately treated for her many parasites and provided with care and nutritious food for the first time. With this level of care, sweet little Tara began to thrive, and her personality began to shine.

Now a senior, Tara is truly one of the most memorable Sanctuary residents. She loves to greet humans, asking for a back scratch or even walking the full length of her pasture with a tour group, accompanying them to their next stop. She often cuddles up to caregivers and is never shy about requesting a snack! She is a gentle and reliable friend to fellow senior goats Fern, Pia, and Zia. Though Tara is CAE positive, which is a progressive viral disease, she now receives the very best medical care from veterinarians and caregivers, which she never would have received at the dairy farm. We are so grateful we can provide this affectionate girl with all the love and attention she deserves.
