Tovah
In the fall of 2015, multiple sanctuaries rescued over 120 animals from a backyard butcher in Montgomery, New York. These poor animals were kept in horrendous conditions — crammed in barns with little to no food. Woodstock Sanctuary took in five sheep, six pigs, and nine goats. Most of the goats had pneumonia, lice, and worms and little did we know, a few were also pregnant.
Three months after the rescue, Tovah went into labor. Before we knew it, adorable babies Hallie and Raymond were born into sanctuary. They were the first pair of the 10 baby goats born to mothers from the backyard butcher case.
Tovah is easily recognized by her small ears and beautiful black and brown markings. She was an amazing mother two her tiny babies and continues to love her family. Tovah and her friends moved to a different barn on the Sanctuary property in 2023. She has been very curious but kind to her new neighbors and seems pleased with the accommodations. She is so gentle and is always one of the first goats to ask for head scratches from her caregivers. Sadly, Hallie passed away unexpectedly, but Tovah still sticks by Raymond’s side, as big as he may be now. We’re so grateful we are able to provide her and her little family a forever home.
