Bunny
In July of 2021 we welcomed Bunny, a sweet and gentle pig who had been born and raised on a farm not far from the Sanctuary. She, along with 11 other pigs, were originally bred to be killed for human consumption, but the people who ran the farm bonded with these intelligent, kind beings and decided to end their pig farming altogether. Bunny was living alone in one of their barns—a group of pigs she shared the space with had rejected her. We didn’t have room at the time for a full-grown pig, but we knew we had to help sweet Bunny.
Thanks to our amazing community, we were able to extend our pig pasture with new fencing and Bunny finally joined us in sanctuary. For a couple years, Bunny lived solo in her large pasture, by choice. She interacted with the other rescued pigs through the fence but had no interest in befriending them. In 2024, we introduced two of our newest rescues, piglets Sylvia and Marge, to Bunny’s pasture. They have been cohabiting peacefully ever since and, although Sylvia and Marge can be troublemakers, they give Bunny her space when she needs it. Bunny’s favorite food is apples, and she loves a good nap! Now she is even happy to share her wallow with her new friends and will boldly approach visitors for snacks.
