Pinocchio

In June 2025, local rescue organization Wayward Ranch closed after successfully finding homes for dozens of rescued animals. They were worried about placing a few closely bonded residents, including senior potbellies Simba and Pinocchio. Thankfully, we were able to welcome these best buds.

Pinocchio had been purchased from a breeder as a piglet and enjoyed 10 years as someone’s companion. This person adored him and provided him with amazing care. Sadly, his human companion became very sick and was hospitalized, no longer able to care for him. Neighbors began to threaten to kill and eat this sweet boy if he did not find placement soon. She was desperate to find a safe home for her friend. As Pinocchio became more at risk, Wayward Ranch learned of him through the Pig Placement Network and staff quickly headed to West Virginia to pick him up.

Pinocchio moved to Woodstock Sanctuary when he was 13 years old, alongside his best friend, Simba. Like most senior pigs, he does have arthritis, which he is carefully treated for. He loves long naps in the sun and still enjoys building gigantic muddy wallows on a hot day. He is a very vocal pig but is an absolute sweetheart who loves attention.

Pinocchio was the first pig to truly bond with Simba and, even though he is double his friend’s size, his calm presence helps Simba to relax and feel safe. He has even been known to step in when Simba is upset with a fellow pig or caregiver, urging his friend to take a “time out.” We cannot wait to watch these two thrive alongside one another, safe forever in sanctuary.
