Suzy

Suzy was rescued as a 6-week-old piglet in a nearby county. This tiny baby was found along the side of the road, frightened and confused. We don't know how long she was lost, but it could have been for some time. Thankfully, the kind person who found her wanted her to be safe and brought her to a local dog and cat shelter who then contacted us. Based on her age, it is likely she fell or jumped from a transport truck on her way to a feed lot or auction. When she arrived, she was battling pneumonia, salmonella, parasites, and a head-tilt we believe is caused by a bacterial infection.

Just as Suzy was starting to settle into her Med Barn routine, we learned of a second piglet in need of rescue. This little guy had wandered into someone’s yard covered in scrapes, and bruises and was fortunately found by a family who wanted this sweet baby to live. We named this piglet Jerry, and we hope that these two babies will be able to grow up side by side.

Fortunately, Suzy’s respiratory problems improved a great deal with treatment. She is boisterous and she will not hesitate to request a snack from anyone she can spot! She and Jerry spent many months bonding before they were big enough to join a group of older pigs. Both Suzy and Jerry now live alongside Sylvia, Marge, and Bunny, and these adult pigs help keep an eye on these two!
