Cat
In April 2023, we received a call from another sanctuary that was facing hardships and required assistance. They were in the process of rehoming three sheep. Sanctuary is a lifelong promise, and we were happy to help this little herd. Prior to their rescue, this trio had spent their days in a petting zoo, where they were used as entertainment for humans. When the petting zoo shut down, the owner intended to send these sheep to a local farm for eventual slaughter. Fortunately, an animal activist intervened and was able to convince the owner to spare Angel, Murphy, and Cat this fate.

When they first arrived at Woodstock Sanctuary, these friends were quite shy around humans, but it didn't take long for them to warm up to our dedicated care staff. Cat, the most reserved of the three, takes a little while to become familiar with humans. Prior to rescue, Cat's front right leg was amputated, but this does not keep her from exploring the Sanctuary alongside our sheep herd! Cat was fitted with a custom prosthetic device, which she wore for just a few hours a day at first to get used to walking with it. She caught on fast though, and now she free roams with the rest of the herd, wearing her special leg. Whether nestled in the barn or basking in the sun on warmer days, Angel, Murphy, and Cat can still be found enjoying each other's company. Cat is also fond of a fellow sheep named Darryl and occasionally employs him as a resting place for her chin, and her favorite snack is bananas!
