Toni
In the summer of 2019, a brave mother sheep ran for her life with her baby lamb by her side. That brave mother was Toni — she saw a chance to escape the fate of slaughter and risked it all to live. Toni and Sonny were found wandering the streets of a neighborhood in New Jersey until the local animal control stepped in to bring them to a safe place. They reached out to us and, a few days later, this brave little family arrived at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary.
Toni was named after the late Toni Morrison, who sadly passed away the same day we rescued her. These days, Sonny is much bigger than his mom — who is one of smallest sheep we have ever met. But don’t let that fool you! Toni is so brave and curious. She often leads the herd as they roam the Sanctuary and is the first to greet new rescues. We will never forget the moment that she raced up to fellow sheep Nicole when she arrived, assuring this fellow mom that she was finally safe. She has many friends, but still spends plenty of time by Sonny’s side.
