Roxy & Phoenix
Phoenix and Roxy arrived at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary in summer 2026. We are still getting to know these sweet friends, and they are adjusting well to their new forever home. This bonded duo previously lived at a sanctuary located in Virginia that suddenly closed down. They needed to find new homes for all their animals right away and we wanted to help. Phoenix and Roxy are both Boer goats, a breed commonly bred for meat, and are about four years old. These two are also bonded, and their previous caregiver understood they needed one another and should travel to their next home together.
It is always a tragedy when a sanctuary needs to close their doors, especially for the animals. Sanctuary is a lifelong promise, and it is a priority of ours to make sure that animals who have made it to sanctuary stay there. So, in July 2026, two of our animal caregivers made the 800-mile round trip to Virginia to pick up Phoenix and Roxy. They also helped to transport six ducks, two turkeys, and one pot-belly pig to their new homes with other sanctuaries in the Northeast!
We can’t wait to learn more about these two and see what friendships develop once they’re able to join one of our goat herds. Both goats are so gentle. Phoenix looks out for his smaller friend, who is a bit shy. He has such a handsome and expressive face!
