Donna and Figaro
In September of 2023, we learned of two rabbits who came from a lab in Massachusetts, where they were being bred for cardiology studies. Donna and Figaro were only a few months old and faced an uncertain future because they didn’t fit the required genetic profile. Because they were not “useful” to the study, they were going to be being killed. Fortunately the organization Save The Buns stepped in just in time. Recognizing the injustice these rabbits faced, they rescued them from a life cut short. These bunnies spent some time at this rescue, bonding with one another and beginning to learn they were safe.
Their bonding journey then led them to their forever home at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary. As they settled into sanctuary life, Donna and Figaro embraced their newfound freedom with enthusiasm. Exploring their pasture is their favorite activity and they were finally able to feel grass under their feet for the first time. Though shy, they love attention from their caregivers, and we often find them inside the barn, snuggling close or sharing a treat.
Donna and Figaro are truly loved and cared for, very curious about their bunny neighbors, and they certainly enjoy digging! Their story serves as a reminder of the transformative power of compassion and the importance of providing refuge to those who need it most.
