The Band

In July 2022, we learned of a mother sheep who had gone blind after giving birth to triplets on a meat farm. This amazing mother Patti was going to be slaughtered once her lambs were weaned, due to her blindness. A supporter intervened to save Patti’s life, but the farm owner was unwilling to surrender her babies. We were committed to keeping this little family together and, eventually we were able to convince them that Patti and her babies needed one another.

Although a bit shy at first, all four of these sweet sheep adjusted to their forever home quickly. We named this brave family after 70’s punk artists! Mother sheep is named Patti after the incredible Patti Smith, and her children are named Lux (after Lux Interior of The Cramps), Darryl (after Darryl Jennifer of Bad Brains), and, last but not least, little Poly (after Poly Styrene). Patti is quite gentle and an attentive mother, while her (now grown!) babies are bold and playful, often leading the herd as they roam around the Sanctuary. We’re so excited to watch The Band (or should we say, The Baa-nd?) continue to thrive as a family.
