Marilyn
In the summer of 2026, we learned about a sanctuary down in Virginia that suddenly closed and needed to find new homes for all their animals. We had room in our barns to welcome two of their goats, Phoenix and Roxy, so two of our animal caregivers, Ally and Madilyn, made the 800-mile round trip to pick them up.
This road trip also brought us an unexpected rescue! While Ally and Madilyn were driving, they spotted a little hen running along the side of the highway. She was in the grass on the median...so close to the speeding cars. They were able to stop, catch her, and get her safely to our transport vehicle. She is a Red Star, which is a breed commonly found on egg farms. It is that likely she jumped or fell off a truck headed to a slaughterhouse. It is a miracle she survived, and an even bigger one that our team members happened to see her. They named her Marilyn, and she is safe, settling in here, and getting the care she needs.
