Bruce
Bruce was raised as a 4H goat. 4H animals are typically auctioned off for slaughter—but the girl who raised Bruce became attached to him and did not want him to die. Bruce lived with her for about two years, but unfortunately the family did not provide proper care and Bruce was neglected. After all of this, they finally did decide to send him to an animal dealer who would fatten him for auction.
Our friend Caitlin at Rancho Relaxo happened to be on the property in 2023, rescuing six chickens when she noticed Bruce. He was so obviously emaciated and was on a tiny patch of grass by himself. Caitlin offered to take him, and the dealer agreed since Bruce was not gaining weight and wouldn’t be profitable.
Caitlin then contacted us to see if we had space for this little sick goat. Raised to be eaten, Bruce has now escaped slaughter, not once, but twice. Our care team worked so hard to improve his health and, thankfully, he has bounced back from the neglect he experienced! Now that Bruce has gained some healthy weight and is free from parasites, he has joined one of our gentle goat herds. Bruce has made many goat friends here --including Clare and Ralphie, but fellow Boer goat Daisy is his bestie! Now that Bruce is comfortable, his personality has begun to shine, and he is one goofy guy! He also grows the most beautiful curly-haired coat each winter.
